After spending the bulk of our 2009 Florida Tour on the Gulf Coast, we welcome the chance to spend some time in New Smryna Beach. Dr. Andrew Turnbull transplanted 1500 souls in New Smryna back in 1768 to grow hemp, sugarcane, and indigo -- the single largest attempt of a lone Brit to do so in the "New World." Sadly many colonists were killed by disease and Dr. Turnbull turned out to be a less than ideal landlord. So, the bulk of his colonists marched up the King's Highway to St. Augustine to demand better treatment. This all seems to resonate keenly with our new song collection . . . stories of displacement and longing for a new life.

North Wales Bluegrass Festival
22nd Annual Event - All Day
Conwy Wales, GB
We return to one of our very favorite events of 2009! The people of Wales are
among the friendliest we've ever met and boy do they love roots music. Though
this is listed as a bluegrass festival, and you will hear lots of fine bluegrass
for certain, there are a variety of roots styles represented at this lovely
festival! And Conwy is full of history (well, that pretty much goes for all
of the UK!), a castle, city wall, and a harbor where the water sparkles and
seagulls will steal the chips right out of your hand if you're not careful.
